BONNERS FERRY, IDAHO
Bonners Ferry is named one of the friendliest towns in America! Just 30 minutes from the Canadian border it is part of a banana belt that stays warmer in the winter months. Surrounded by majestic mountains on three sides, the beauty is breath taking from any viewpoint. These mountain ranges protect Bonners Ferry from naturally occurring northern storms.
Farmland such as canola fields, barley, alfalfa as well as ranches with cattle and sheep dot the countryside. Water is abundant throughout with the main feature being the Kootenai River. This river starts in Canada, winds through a portion of Montana, down through downtown Bonners Ferry and reverts back up to Canada once again. Besides the Kootenai and Moyie Rivers, plentiful mountain lakes and streams are to be found on numerous properties. Bonners Ferry is the county seat of Boundary County. The city itself is about 3,000 people with the entire county only being 10,000 people. Plenty of elbow room here. Don't be surprised if the locals wave to you as you pass by. No wonder why it has won the friendliest town award. It's the "Jewel of the Gem State." |
Thank you Lynda Hall for some of your beautiful photographs for this slide show.
